The Pope is given personalised Boston Celtics, Roma and Lazio jerseys

Because if there’s one thing a Pope needs, it’s more jerseys.

DURING HIS WEEKLY audience in Rome, Pope Francis is used to meeting the great and good from the worlds of politics, media and sport.

This week though, the football mad pontiff received some extra special gifts.

With Roma and Lazio facing each other in the Italian Cup final on Sunday, both were looking for divine intervention ahead of the game and presented the Argentinian with personalised jerseys.

However, Roma went one step further by giving the Pope an NBA jersey as the club’s president, James Pallotta, is also an owner of the Boston Celtics.

We just hope this doesn’t mean an end to the Pope’s well documented love-affair with San Lorenzo.
